You may have heard about affiliate marketing and if you are one of the many who actively makes money working online promoting affiliate products then you will know that this is one of the better ways of generating an online income. For those of you who are new to the concept of affiliate marketing, I’ll fill you in on how it works.

How to make money online with affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is a way to sell products online without the need to buy, handle or ship any stock. Instead, the vendor handles all of that, including any customer service issues that may arise. This is because you are not selling the product directly; you are simply promoting it and providing your customers with the means to buy it. When you sign up as an affiliate you will be provided with a link to the vendor’s website. This link will contain a code that is unique to you. Every time a person clicks on that link and buys the product from the vendor’s website, you will earn a commission.

So, an affiliate your main job is to drive targeted traffic (buyers) to the vendor’s website.

I first got interested in affiliate marketing when I was working at a 9-5 job providing computer support for a web hosting company. I noticed that a lot of people were putting up simple product promotion pages giving news and reviews. I also noticed that although these people were not selling anything they were generating a lot of traffic through our web hosting services. In the long term, these people where generating $1000’s in commissions and it looked extremely easy. That’s when I joined the bandwagon, so to speak. Of course, I had a lot of learning to do and problems to overcome, and I was simply overwhelmed with information and people bombarding me with offers and programs to promote.

I can indeed confirm that affiliate marketing is a very lucrative business and I can now say very happily that I do earn a 6 figure income from affiliate marketing. This, however, was not easy to achieve. It took me 6 years to get to this point, along with a lot of hard work and determination.

The best advice I can give is not to keep looking at and reading about all the latest fads and ClickBank programs but to instead opt for something you have a passion for. Lets say you like cars, so you create a website about cars and promote car accessories. Your passion for cars will keep you interested and motivate you to work hard at promoting your website and the products you sell. Your passion for cars will also make this a much more enjoyable experience and will make it much more likely that you will be able to provide visitors to your site with informative, interesting content.

Promoting a product you love as an affiliate marketer is one of the best ways to make money online.
